DIY Heart Emoji Donuts

So as it turns out, I have a small obsession with the emoji heart and this is my THIRD emoji heart tutorial! Yes, you heard right folks, I’ve done two other emoji heart projects (see heart clutch and BFF necklaces). And when I found this heart shaped donut pan, I knew another emoji donut project needed to happen! This is the perfect treat for your Valentine’s Day parties or to give to your best donut-loving gal pals. Who doesn’t love #emojisinthewild?! This is one of my easier donut tutorials, and all it takes to transform this normal heart donut into an emoji is a little bit of fondant! Find the how-to below!

For the donuts:

2 cups flour
3/4 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 eggs
3/4 cup skim milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
White fondant
Gel food coloring in yellow
Heart shaped donut pan (here)

For the glaze:

1/4 cup melted butter
1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-4 teaspoons hot water
Gel food coloring in pink

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking
soda, and salt. Set aside.

2. In a separate bowl, mix
vanilla, eggs, milk, and butter. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet
ingredients and mix until just combined.

3. Put the batter into a piping bag and pipe 1/2 of the way full into a heart shaped donut pan. Bake for 7-8 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack

3. Color your fondant yellow and roll out on a floured surface to 1/4″ thickness. Print and cut out the shimmers on the emoji heart and trace around them with a sharp knife to cut them out in the yellow fondant. Place them aside to harden.

4. Combine butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and water in a bowl and color pink with food coloring. Once the donuts are cooled, dip the donuts into the glaze and shake to remove any excess icing. Flip over and add the emoji heart shimmers that you made in fondant to the top. Allow the icing to harden and enjoy!

Which emoji do you want to see turned into a donut next?! Any of the emoji hearts would work with this tutorial! You could even make every color of emoji heart by coloring the batter with food coloring!!

P.S. Emoji elbow patches too! (Forgot about those ones!)
