Donuts,

Pink Velvet Cake Donuts

So I’m sure you guys all know what red velvet is, BUT did you know that PINK velvet exists (and blue velvet too)?! When I first found out about pink velvet, I was crazy about making pink velvet cakes because 1. they taste sooo good, and 2. they are even prettier than red velvet. I’ve been working on modifying my cake recipe to turn it into a donut recipe, so today we’re showing you how to make pink velvet donuts!!! I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, things taste just a little better when they’re pink. šŸ˜‰

For the donuts:

1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup whole milk
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
Pink food coloring

For the glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup whole milk

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Using vegetable shortening or cooking spray, grease the cavities of your donut pan. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine the vegetable oil, milk, egg, vanilla extract, and vinegar. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing as you go.

3. Once everything is combined, add in the pink food coloring until the donut batter turns pink. Scoop the batter into a piping bag and pipe it into the donut pan filling each cavity 1/2 full.

4. Bake for 9-12 minutes or until the edges of the donuts begin to brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on a cooling rack.

5. In a small bowl, mix together your powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Once the donuts have chilled, dip each one into the glaze and place them onto a drying rack until the glaze sets. Enjoy!

What are your thoughts?! Does pink velvet reign supreme over red velvet or is red velvet always going to be number one?!
